Sunday, May 24th

On Sunday, we met my dad at the Audabon Zoo so the kids could have some time with Pawpaw and to get out and run around a bit. (Times like these are hard on kids b/c the adults are so busy and there aren't lots of time and places for them to run around and play, plus they have to be quiet a lot.)
This zoo is my favorite zoo in the world! I have been coming here since I was a toddler, so I have many fond memories of it. Luckily, the place hasn't changed too much... It was really nice to see Tristan and my niece, hmmm.... Montana, having fun doing the same things me and my cousins used to do here.

As kids, we spent hours (or what seemed like hours) playing all over the giant oak trees... both at the zoo and at City Park. Seeing them was very nostalgic. It was also neat taking the kids into the petting zoo to pet the sheep and goats. That section hasn't changed a bit and it brought back lots of memories of myself doing the same thing...*sigh* Time moves so fast...

These white tigers have always been here and in the same spot. They have always been and still are my favorite :)

We ate lunch in the swamp portion of the zoo, which has always been my favorite section of the zoo! We had Jamablaya, Crawfish pie and Crawfish Etoufee... although the kids just had chicken nuggets... just as we sat down, they started feeding the Alligators and the kids really enjoyed seeing that :)

We finished up with the Reptile house. It's really dark in there and there has always been a fake Anaconda on the ceiling, adults (usually Uncles) would always point it out and say, "Oh no! One escaped!!" Of course, we would get scared and then they would laugh and point out that it's fake.... well, I did the same thing to Tristan and Montana... it was classic ;) We got done just as the zoo was closing, said goodbye to my dad, and then went back to the hotel to change.
We met my Nanny and Memaw for dinner at Copeland's Cheescake Bistro...which is supposed to be The Cheesecake Factory, but owned by the Al Copeland gang (he started Popeye's Chicken). It was awful. It wasn't even the same menu from TCF, Blech. Bad food, slow service and way too loud. The only good part was the Cheesecake, which was probably shipped in. Don't go there.

Aw, it's nice to hear that y'all managed to have some fun while you were in New Orleans, even though it was a sad occasion which brought you there.
