(I'm writing this in July 2012, but the actual trip was in September 2011...)
We didn't spend a whole lot of time in Georgia and most of that time was consumed with wedding stuff, but we also got to visit with old friends and do a bit of sightseeing. We also got one of my friends from high school, who does an AMAZING job as a photographer, to take our family photos :) They turned out great and I'm so glad we had them done! I would put them on here, except the disk is downstairs, and I am upstairs.... and I'm lazy. Besides, if you know me, you have seen them :)
Anywho, one of the places we visited was Tallulah Gorge State Park. During all the years we lived in Georgia, we NEVER visited this place! It was a gorgeous park with tons of trails that went around, over and to the Gorge and waterfalls.
The weather was nice, which was a lucky break. Being September, it had been pretty hot, but the day we went to Tallulah it was overcast all day and a little chilly, which made for nice hiking weather.
The trail we went on was mostly made of stairs..... almost 2 miles of stairs!!! I'm telling you, it's a miracle our fat hineys made it through!!
Down, down, down we went.... enjoying the weather.... enjoying the company..... only semi-thinking about what the trip back up was going to be like..... denial is the spice of life you know!!
And then we came to this bridge that went over the Gorge... it was SO pretty!!
That's my mom!
That's my Nanny!
We reached the bottom, YAY!! Actually, a certain # of people per day can request "passes" to go hiking past this point, into the gorge and along the river... which requires going over the above rocks and across the river to the other side.... definitely not something you do with young kids in tow.... so that adventure is for another day :)
So peaceful, so calm, so pretty.....
And then..... it starts! The realization that you now must go UP all those stairs that you came down!! Yeah, see my mom smiling??? She didn't look like that at the top!! Arthur, Tristan and my nephew (cute little booger, ain't he??) being young and male, left us behind and practically ran to the top where they had ample time to rest before the rest of us fatties made it to the top! Arthur did double back at some point, to make sure we hadn't gone into cardiac arrest.
And after the hike.... we poked around the visitor center for a bit and then we did what all fatties do after they have exerted a lot of energy/calories..... we went out to eat!! And it was good, and I was totally justified in getting dessert ;)
