MFW: Weeks 7-9

OK, from here on out, posts about 2nd grade are going to be a little fuzzy because, well, I'm writing this in July and August!! But I'll try my best.....

In Bible, Tristan was still learning about "Jesus the Bread of Life" and in weeks 8 and 9, we moved onto "Jesus the Rock". His memory verse for "Jesus the Rock" was:

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."  ~ Matthew 7:24

There were some GREAT conversations that took place during these two weeks! Tristan read lots of Bible stories about building your house on the rock, instead of the sand. And for several weeks after, whenever he would make bad decisions, I would point out to him that he was building his house on sand and not on a rock.... and it was cool, because he got that!

In History he learned all about Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. He made a "Poor Richard's Almanac" and his readers were "Ben Franklin and the Magic Squares" and "George Washington and the Generals Dog".

Somewhere in these few weeks, the History memory verse in Classical Conversations was about the War of 1812:

The War of 1812 gave confidence to the U.S. to write the Monroe Doctrine, warning Europeans not to attempt to colonize the Americas.

So, our field trip on October 14th was to Baltimore to visit Ft. McHenry! And it was great! The kids got to help take down and fold up one of the flags flying at the fort and watch as a new one was put up. The park rangers were very friendly and talked to the kids (and adults) and some of the children even sang their "War of 1812" memory verse to them. It did start to rain, so we went in to the visitor center and watched the movie (which was really good) and looked around the visitor center.

Also, towards the end of September, Tristan started playing Soccer again.... did I mention that???
